Lego has done it once more. Managed to suck in another franchise and do...well whatever dark ritual they do to convert things to fit their own world. The next big draw? Lord of the Rings. I foresee many many hobbits getting vacuumed up in the near future.
It's not a shock. Lego has already managed to grab most of the good properties out there already; Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Bat Man, Harry Potter... we all knew it was only a matter of time until they snatched up this one too. The News started sweeping about in December, stating that Lego had obtained the rights to produce the toys based on the Peter Jackson films as well as the upcoming Hobbit series.
I'll be honest here; part of me is giggling in glee yet the other half is sort of groaning. It's not that I think Lego is really doing anything wrong, on a business end their ability to stick their oddly cupped hands into every major property is bloody fantastic. I seem to more groan over the over saturation. That- or knowing my kids will be pestering me to get them whatever the nice $170 set will be-which if they ever got would end up like all the other Legos as part of their massive reproduction of the Portal series. They are already making plans as to what the pieces from the soon to be Minecraft sets will be converted to.
